The beauty of Taal continues to draw us. This lake within an island within a lake is a view that enhances any visit to Tagaytay City. Often shrouded in mist, Taal Volcano and Taal Lake hold their own mysteries deep within. Recent findings show that the fresh water lake was once filled with water from the sea -- traces of an acient beach littered with sea shells may still be found at the lake bottom 30 feet below the surface. Taal Lake is home to the only known species of sea snake that inhabits fresh water, Hydrophis Semperi. Fish known as Tawilis and Maliputo, for which Taal is famous, are likewise the only species of their kind found mostly in fresh water.
